Cleanliness

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission): Launched by the Government of India on October 2, 2014, the Clean India Mission is an important program aimed at making the nation clean and green. It involves activities like public sanitation, waste management, and creating awareness about cleanliness. Initiated on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary, the campaign aimed to make all cities and villages open-defecation free by October 2, 2019. However, due to various reasons, widespread participation has yet to be achieved. Everyone must actively participate in this campaign to improve cleanliness and hygiene across the country.

Why Cleanliness Is Necessary:

Hygiene and Health Problems: Many regions in India face sanitation issues, such as a lack of proper toilets and waste management, leading to diseases like diarrhea and cholera. This campaign seeks to address these issues and provide better sanitation facilities. Environmental Impact: Improper waste disposal and open defecation contribute to environmental pollution, such as water and soil contamination. The mission promotes waste management and cleanliness to reduce pollution and protect natural resources. Public Health: Poor sanitation can lead to public health problems. By constructing toilets and promoting waste management, the campaign aims to improve public health and reduce the burden of sanitation-related diseases. Economic Development: A clean and attractive environment boosts tourism and business, supporting local economies and generating employment. Quality of Life: Access to clean and hygienic facilities improves the quality of life, particularly for women and children. Social Awareness: The campaign spreads awareness about the importance of cleanliness and encourages citizens to take responsibility for their surroundings.
